As part of the kick-off meeting for the project SELF-ID – My Digital Self: Shaping Identity in the Digital Age, a two-day workshop dedicated to developing an educational game on youth digital identity was held in Maribor on February 12 and 13, 2026. The event brought together representatives from all partner organizations from Slovenia, Croatia, Italy, and Austria, with DKMK being represented by Lana Ciboci Perša and Katarina Blažina Mukavec.

The workshop was facilitated by experts from Spielmacher, an Austrian organization specializing in the design and creation of educational games for schools and educational projects. Their team develops board games that help young people better understand complex social and digital issues through play. This approach is rooted in game-based learning, problem-solving, collaboration, and active participation.

The workshop provided an opportunity to highlight the importance of games as a serious educational tool. While developing the game, participants recognized the profound impact of engaging students in problem-solving, decision-making, and teamwork. Instead of passively listening to lectures on digital identity, social media, or algorithms, students can navigate challenges and tasks to independently analyze situations, debate choices, and comprehend the consequences of their online behavior.

Within the SELF-ID project framework, an educational escape room game will be developed, focusing on youth digital identity, online self-presentation, the influence of social media and algorithms, and the digital footprints they leave behind.
